Janus
Janus: Gatekeeper of Time, Transitions and New Beginnings. A vibrant abstract portrait inspiring heartfelt study of the past and brave curiosity for the future.
• The interpretation Janus (Roman deity) was painted January 2020. I chose to incorporate vails and the mantilla to echo the symbolism and ceremony of great change (powerfully ironic - looking back). Mantillas are traditionally worn during funerals and weddings.
• Originally painted to reflect personal transformation... The current global panini press adds unexpected layers to the symbolism depicted: both mourning/learning from the past while looking forward with gratitude and playful optimism.
